Oct. 22nd, 2022 10:52 amit’s interesting to me how what people think is worth noting when they’re spelling out a dialect bc it’s so indicative of what they consider “normal”
for example, it wouldn’t occur to me to write gibbs/barbossa/etc as saying “yer” and “fer” for “you’re” and “for” because that’s how i pronounce those words. that's what's normal to me
honestly it feels a little uncomfortable sometimes, like the person writing it has to point out how weird and incorrect the character sounds to them. like, i’ve never seen anyone writing out RP or Standard American phonetically
maybe it's not that deep but people definitely are weird about certain accents in a way that at least borders on classism
