the real truth is that the parrot doesn’t actually speak for him and it’s just an elaborate practical joke cotton plays on people (with gibbs’s assistance). most of his communication is via some sort of sign language
the real real truth is that the parrot does speak for him, he just doesn’t tell anybody about the details about their weird magical mind link and convincing them that it’s fake after convincing them that it’s real is part of the joke
also in my version of things the parrot has a name. perhaps named after some public figure that it would be funny to scold for shitting where he isn’t supposed to. king george. shakespeare
